Sunday Sipping: Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord

Click here for the Mass Readings! There's four sets of them!

Rejoice! He for whom our hearts have longed for has come! Rejoice! He for whom Israel ached and whom the prophets foretold has come! Rejoice, for these are great and glad tidings!

Just think, brothers and sisters, on this day we celebrate the birth of Our Lord. Today, we celebrate the union of the Divine and the human in the Infant wrapped in swaddling clothes. We gather in awe about the humble Child, laid in the manger, and in silence we adore. On this day, we witness Divinity breaking forth into history, granting every moment of our lives and the decisions that fill them with an eternal significance and a profound possibility for union with the Infinite. We marvel at the limitless love that moved the Divine Word to become flesh and dwell among us.

Brothers and sisters, I invite you to take some time today to be like Mary, and in your hearts ponder the earth-shaking sound of our salvation's arrival resounding through the silent night of Bethlehem and all of history. I invite you to kneel before the Incarnate Word and adore, filled with awe at the Mystery before you. Rejoice brothers and sisters, for today is Christmas, when the Lord of all creation deigned to be born among men! Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests!
